The rules of the road.
These terms cover how you use Showtools. They're written to be read, not to hide anything — so if anything here isn't clear, ask us.
Last updated 13 August 2026 · Governed by New Zealand law
Showtools connects buyers and sellers — we're not part of the trade, and we don't hold the gear or the money. Be honest in your listings, only sell what's yours to sell, look after yourself when you trade, and treat other members decently. Break those and we can take your listings or your account down. The detail is below.
1. Who we are
Showtools is operated by Showtools Limited, a company registered in New Zealand (NZBN 9429033890524). In these terms “Showtools”, “we” and “us” mean Showtools Limited. We run an online platform where people in the screen industry list, browse and connect over gear for sale and gear wanted. By creating an account or using the site, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use Showtools.
2. We connect people — we are not part of the trade
Showtools is a venue for members to find each other. We are not the buyer or the seller, and we are not an agent, broker, auctioneer, escrow service or payment provider. We don't take possession of any item, we don't handle payment, and we don't deliver anything.
Every transaction is a private deal between the members involved. We don't vet members or inspect items beyond basic account checks such as email confirmation, and we make no promise that a listing is accurate, that an item is genuine or as described, or that a member is who they say they are. Read our Trust & safety guidance before you trade — staying safe is on you.
3. Your account
You must be at least 18 to use Showtools. Give accurate account details and keep them up to date, keep your login secure, and don't let anyone else use your account. You're responsible for everything that happens under it. Tell us straight away if you think it's been compromised.
4. Listings and content
When you list something, you confirm that you own it or are authorised to sell it, and that you may legally do so. Describe it honestly — condition, provenance, serial numbers, faults and all. Don't list anything stolen, counterfeit, recalled, or that you can't legally sell or export, and don't list anything illegal.
You keep ownership of the words and photos you post, but you grant Showtools a non-exclusive licence to host, display and promote them so your listing works across the site and its link previews. We may edit, refuse or remove any listing or content at our discretion — for example if it breaks these terms or looks unsafe.
5. How you behave
Use Showtools honestly and decently. Don't defraud, harass, threaten or spam other members; don't impersonate anyone; don't scrape the site, probe or bypass its security, or use it to move stolen goods or launder money. Don't use another member's details for anything other than the trade you're actually doing with them.
6. Fees
Listing on Showtools is free while we build the community. If we introduce fees later, we'll tell you before they apply to you, and you can decide whether to keep using the paid features.
7. Moderation, suspension and removal
We can take a listing down, or suspend or close an account, if we believe these terms have been broken or to protect other members or the platform. We also reserve the right to refuse service to anyone, and to withdraw access to Showtools at our discretion, whether or not these terms have been broken. Where it is practical we'll give notice and a reason, but we are not obliged to. Where we can, we'll keep a record of what changed hands so our reporting stays honest, but a removed listing or account stops being visible or usable. You can also close your own account at any time from your account settings.
8. Our brand and the site
The Showtools name, logo, design and the site itself are ours. Don't copy, resell or pass them off as your own. This doesn't affect the rights you keep in your own listings and content.
9. No warranty, and our liability
Showtools is provided “as is”. We do our best to keep it running and useful, but we don't warrant that it will be uninterrupted or error-free, or vouch for any member, item or listing.
To the fullest extent the law allows, we're not liable for loss or damage arising out of your dealings with other members or your use of the site — including a deal that goes wrong, an item that isn't as described, or money you can't recover. Nothing in these terms limits any right you have that cannot legally be excluded — including, in New Zealand, the Consumer Guarantees Act and the Fair Trading Act, and the equivalent consumer protections that apply where you live. Where our liability can't be excluded but can be limited, it's limited to the amount you paid us to use Showtools in the previous twelve months (which, while listing is free, may be nothing).
10. You cover us for your breaches
If someone brings a claim against Showtools because of something you did — a listing you posted, an item you sold, or a term you broke — you agree to cover the reasonable costs and losses that result, to the extent the law allows.
11. Privacy
How we handle your personal information is set out in our Privacy Policy.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as Showtools grows. If we make a material change we'll give reasonable notice, and continuing to use the site after that means you accept the updated terms.
13. Governing law and where you are
These terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand, and the New Zealand courts have jurisdiction over any dispute.
Showtools is open to members anywhere, and we run it from New Zealand. Choosing New Zealand law doesn't remove consumer protections you have under the law of the country you live in, where those protections can't be contracted out of. You are responsible for meeting your own local laws when you list, buy or ship gear — including any import, export or customs rules that apply to what you're trading.
